Behind the scenes with Craftsy!!

March 1, 2013 / Jessica / Craftsy, General, Jessica Harris Cakes / 15 Comments
Before I share some behind the scene pictures with you all, I have to first off say thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been overwhelmed with emotion these past few days as my Craftsy class went live!!  Soooooo many of you bought the class, emailed me, posted messages on my facebook page and have been SUCH an encouragement to me.  I had no idea how far I have reached some of you and I have been SO blessed to have been apart of your lives and so thankful that you’ve found help, guidance and inspiration here!!  My class broke a Craftsy record!!  The most sold in the first 24 hours of any cake decorating class!!  It was insane!!  So, thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

Thank you for touching my heart SO deeply!!

Now…onto some behind the scene pictures!!!

What an amazing trip this was!

I had glorious plans to take tons of pictures in order to share this experience with all of you!!  I just wish I would have had my stink’n battery in my camera and it wasn’t sitting in the charger at my HOUSE!!!! – yes…it was SUCH a bummer!  I realized that after I went to take some pictures AFTER I got to Colorado!!  And there just wasn’t time to buy a new one…so, I hardly got any pictures!!
BUT, I did have the crew take a few for me with their camera and they graciously emailed them to me so you can meet them!!!
Here is my crew…the bestest crew ever!!!
From left to right: Ivana, me, Jarrod, James
Ivana was on the computer doing immediate editing between the two cameras, Jarrod was on the moving camera and James was the Producer behind the center camera.  They were SO fun to work with!  Jarrod was like my brother so he and I had some good laughs (at each other’s expense of course)!!  He was from Oregon so we had a lot to chat about!  He is SUCH a sweetheart…I need to find a girl for him when he comes to Oregon to visit! :)  James was SO easy going…I was happy about that because I was so nervous in the beginning!! – well, throughout the whole thing! :)  He helped walk me through everything and every time I said, “Today…” he’d stop me and remind me…we can’t say today! :)  “Say, ‘In this lesson…'”  It was so funny!  I think I said that a dozen times…or more!! :)  Sorry James!
Here’s Jarrod trying to be all professional!!  Showing you all what he was doing the whole time…what was he doing?!! ;)  Just kidding Jarrod!
Here was my view from behind the counter.  Below: James and Jarrod were trying to give me their serious faces…but they never looked like that!

Above/Below: This is how they always looked…happy and smiling!
Below: This was the sweetest lady I met through this whole process!!  Grace was the gal who got me started, helped me form my class, gave me SO much advice and walked me through the whole process!  It was SOOO amazing to finally meet this incredible woman and give her a well deserved hug!!  She is so smart, so well spoken, so sophisticated, so tiny and just so happens to be in my class with me! – I needed someone to help me hold one of the cakes during a lesson and she just so happened to be there observing so we roped her into it!! LOL!  So, look for my friend Grace in my class!!
This pic was taken with Grace’s phone at their corporate offices.  Stink’n camera battery!!
This company was a class act!  I was so impressed with them from the beginning until the end…well…the end of filming! :)  So far so good!!  Thank you Craftsy for such an amazing experience!!  I hope I get to do it again!

Stay tuned for more cake pictures from the class.  I’ve got a post on each cake with some close up pics and more info about what you’ll see in the class.

I bought this class. This is the only class I watched continuously from the beginning to the end. I still have some paid classes I bought, I have never watched. Your instructions were so clear and all the time I didn’t feel that distant feeling I get from other professional decorators. Thank you so much! You are the best!

Jessica, I do think you are a genius! I stumbled upon your blog this year and have been amazed by your work. The concept of the waxed paper transfer opens up so many possibilities, and I’m very grateful to you and Craftsy. Like the previous writer, I also set up my ipad and watched the entire class while ironing my long overdue stack of laundry. My sons have taken autocad classes and whined about how difficult it is to learn. I’m hoping your next venture will be to open an etsy shop where you sell the graphic templates for designs you create on cad. Also, I’ve used modeling chocolate mixed with fondant for a few years, but never heard of anyone “famous” doing it, so thanks for the validation. I was so excited about the class, that I created a cake right away, based on Maggie Austin’s cake and your chevron cake. Posted on http://www.babushkabakery.com Thanks again and I wish you and your family health and prosperity.

    Hi Jessica,
I’ve been doing cakes for awhile now but lost some inspiration lately, once I stumble upon your blog a few moths ago. It has lit a fire in me again to strive to be better cakes.
Thank you for being a wonderful teacher. I bought your craftsy class a couple of days ago and have learn so much, tricks I didn’t even think of. The pvc pipe was one of my favorite little secrets, it really help with large cakes.
One question, so with the modeling chocolate you mixed it with fondant to create your designs, right? I used the modeling chocolate alone and it was somewhat crumbly and tended break a lot.
I remember in the video you mention it once about mixing the two but never heard it again throughout the video.
Thank you for taking the time out for inspiring us all.

I am so happy to hear you are inspired again! Sometimes when we get back to doing it because we love it (and to just be a blessing) we start to enjoy it more! – it’s a get to…not a got to!

I don’t always mix it…it’s random. I prefer working with just modeling chocolate, but if I’m doing something where I need it to stay flexible a little longer or have some elasticity I’ll add in some fondant. Also, I’ll mix them when I want to change the shade of modeling chocolate. For instance, I’ll add white fondant to modeling chocolate to lighten it instead of making white modeling chocolate.

    Hope that helps!

    Blessings!

Excited was the WORD when I hear that you had a Craftsy class coming out. So silly, but my immediate thought was, “Thank goodness I already have an account, I will be able to watch right away!!” And watch I did. I didn’t do anything the rest of the night…with the exception of meeting my friends for dinner. Believe me, it was tough to pull my self away I was so sad when it was all over, but I’m so excited to get back to the States so I can get started on these techniques. It says a lot about a teacher when you can walk away from a class not only inspired, but with the thought of, “Hey, I can actually do this!” Congratulations again…you’re such a blessing to all of us!
